A town to call home
Wythenshawe Town Centre is a place with a plan. Building on what already makes Wythenshawe special and with Civic at its beating heart, the plan is now creating new places to live in the town and spaces for the community to come together.
This town means more
Manchester City Council is working with placemaker, Muse, on some big ideas to transform the town centre. With the total investment expected to be more than £500m, it will provide new opportunities for people in Wythenshawe to live, grow and thrive.
It won’t all happen overnight, but by now you should be seeing some big changes at Civic as work on the Culture Hub has started and the former Peacocks store has been demolished to make way for a new public square.
A planning application for the new food hall has also been submitted with plans to progress this and new workspaces in the coming months.
In time, the plans will extend beyond Civic, with new, sustainable neighbourhoods within the town centre full of homes, businesses and green spaces to meet, relax and enjoy.
Plans have already been submitted for 422 new homes, which are all available for social rent and will be delivered alongside Wythenshawe Community Housing Group. The wider plans could see up to 2,000 new homes built in Wythenshawe.
We’ve really enjoyed engaging with the local community to deliver our plans to date and this is just the start.
Come and meet us
You can find us at Open Space, our meeting point in Wythenshawe (Unit 10, The Birtles, next to the former market). Our team will be there on the last Thursday of every month, 10am – 2pm, feel free to pop in and have a chat.
The shape of things to come
The first phase of the plans is centred around investing in Civic. The wider masterplan is looking at the opportunity for new homes in the town centre.
